    About GAO

Graduate Archaeology at Oxford (GAO) is a student-led society at the University of Oxford, bringing together Master's and DPhil students from Archaeology, Classical Archaeology, and Archaeological Science programs. GAO serves as the voice of the student community within the Department of Classics and the Institute of Archaeology, and organizes various social events throughout the term.

    Annual conference: 2025

The annual conference is one of the most important events organized by GAO. Graduate students from the University of Oxford, as well as other universities, are welcome. It is an incredible opportunity for graduate students to present their ideas to peers, meet fantastic people, and foster a sense of community.

The event typically spans three days and includes paper presentations, poster sessions, and social events.

Speakers will have the opportunity to be published, if interested, in

a peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings with BAR Publishing.

    Conference Theme

Movement, as a term, refers to the process of change. This change can be physical, from a place to another, from one position to the next. But it can also be conceptual, from a belief to another, from one status quo to the next. Movement is everywhere, but it is rarely placed at the forefront. The Graduate Archaeology at Oxford conference of 2025 aims to focus on such motion.
